The South Central Chapter of the Society for Photographic Education hosted their inaugural Portfolio Throwdown on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Nasher Sculpture Center in the Arts District of Downtown Dallas. This was a unique opportunity for photography students from Undergraduate and Graduate programs to bring their best work, and meet with Photography Instructors, Commercial Photographers, and Museum or Gallery Professionals.
Students refined their photographic vision by getting honest, forthright feedback, and honed their skills at discussing and presenting their work. Students also received the benefit of expanding their personal network by meeting instructors, professionals, and other students outside of their own academic programs. Reviewers benefited by meeting potential future students, interns, or assistants, and by seeing the developing work of the next generation of photographers from the Society for Photographic Education South Central region.
Reviewers chose a single winner of the Throwdown Prize- first place is a solo show at 500X Gallery, second place is a gift certificate from Frame Destination, and third place is a gift certificate for paper from Red River Paper.
